I am your president this year! I’m so excited to get to know all of you! I am a senior, majoring in Finance and Biology and getting certificates in Healthcare Management and Global Health. I just applied to medical school and am excited for what this year and the future hold. I currently work in a research lab in the Dept. of Endocrinology and as a medical assistant at Our Lady of Hope clinic. I’m involved in Greek life and the UW-Swim Club and love having friends all over campus. In my free time, I love just hanging out with friends, trying new restaurants and watching what seems like every tv show on Netflix. I’m here to serve as a resource for you all, so always feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to grab coffee and chat!
Hi AED’ers, my name is Jack Shireman and I am the vice president for this year. My duties as your vice president are to coordinate and oversee some major events like the surgery shadowing program, as well as the phlebotomy course and CPR class. I am also the go to person for the president, and between the both of us we basically make sure everything in the club runs smoothly. I am currently a senior Neurobiology major and I am applying for MD/PhD programs to enter into next year. I love doing research, and work in two different labs on campus that I would be happy to talk about. I am also a housefellow in the lakeshore dorms and a HELP volunteer at Meriter hospital. Im excited for my role as vice president this year and look forward to meeting all of you!

Hi, everyone! My name is Emily and I’m a senior majoring in biology and Spanish with a certificate in global health. I’m super excited to be one of the volunteer co-chairs this year and hope to find a lot of cool opportunities for us to get involved in throughout the Madison community. Around campus, I am involved in the UW Center for Women’s Health where I am a data analyst assistant researching bias in who receives medical research grants and am a member of National Organization for Women. I work as a substitute at an after school program, volunteer in the pediatric unit at St. Mary’s Hospital, and have worked at the best place in the world, Phantom Lake YMCA Camp, for the past four summers. I studied abroad Spring 2016 in Sevilla, Spain and loved traveling (and eating) through Europe. I’m planning on taking a gap year before medical school and would love to help answer any questions you might have about studying abroad, gap years, or life in general! I’m looking forward to getting to know you all!

Junior/Senior Board Representative
Hey everyone, my name is Eric Malamud and I am a Junior double majoring in Neurobiology and Entrepreneurship. I’ll be your Junior/Senior representative this year. I became a member of AED freshman year and really enjoy all of the opportunities that it presents. I hope to make your experiences just as great as mine. I’m also part of a few other organizations on campus such as the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, WASB, and Big Brothers Big Sisters so feel free to ask me any questions you have about getting involved. Throughout the summer I worked in a Cancer research lab, which has given me a lot of valuable insight into medicine and what I want to do in the future. As a board member I hope to use what I have learned from my time at UW to continue to help AED grow. Feel free to come to me with any event ideas that you have throughout the year. Some interesting facts about me are that I am fluent in Russian, I love basketball, and I have traveled to 29 different countries.
Freshman/Sophomore Board Representatives
I’m a sophomore this year and one of AED’s Freshman/Sophomore Board Representatives. I’m majoring in Kinesiology and also am currently involved in AED, Kinesiology Club, Badger Volunteering, volunteering at Children’s Hospital and working at Union South. I love watching the sunset from the terrace docks and watching The Office.
My name is Amanda Mix and I am one of the Freshman/Sophomore Representatives. I am a sophomore majoring in Neurobiology and Spanish. In addition to AED, I am an undergraduate research assistant in Bradley Postle’s Neuroscience of Working Memory lab, involved in my sorrority, Alpha Xi Delta, in the Chancellor’s Scholars program, and I volunteer at the hospital. I try to be active and run, but I also love Dr. Pepper!
Hey everyone! I’m the Freshman Board Representative for AED and my job is to make sure the Freshman voice is heard, so please don’t hesitate to contact me for any questions— I’m super friendly, I promise! I’m a freshman (obviously) majoring in Neurobiology and considering a Certificate in Global Health. I will begin to volunteer at UW Health very soon and I am currently an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Banks’s lab where we are researching post-surgical delirium, its causes, and ways to reduce it/its effects. I hope to someday be a neurosurgeon. I am currently involved in AED, UNS, and WPS, and I look forward to joining more clubs next semester. Some of my hobbies include: binge-watching Netflix, taking group fitness classes at the Nat, and sleeping. I also have a 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do so I’m trying to get more active in the Tae Kwon Do club on campus.
If you would like some help connecting with upperclassmen in the club, I’ve got very direct contact with all the officers, so I’ll be more than happy to help. Also feel free to make any suggestions about things we can do for the freshmen (still working on that one myself) or mention any concerns or questions you have about anything!
